Uxue Alvarez

Predoctoral researcher – Bioinformatician

Uxue obtained her degree in Biotechnology from the University of the Basque Country (2021) and completed a Master’s in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. She is currently pursuing her PhD, focusing on the tumor microenvironment in breast cancer through the analysis of multi-omics data, including single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and multiplex ELISA panels.

Since she joined the Breast Cancer group at Biogipuzkoa HRI, Uxue has contributed to multiple projects integrating different omics datasets to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, both as posters and oral presentations. She has also completed a research stay at CiMUS (Santiago de Compostela) and has received a research grant from the Jesús de Gangoiti Barrera Foundation as well as a predoctoral fellowship from the Basque Government to support her PhD project.

With a multidisciplinary background in experimental and computational biology, Uxue aims to advance precision medicine and improve understanding of disease mechanisms. When not at the computer, she can usually be found playing the clarinet or practicing Pilates.
