Sara Manzano
Postdoctoral researcher

Sara Manzano obtained her PhD in ‘Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine’ in 2021 from the Complutense University of Madrid, where she had previously completed her Bachelor’s degree (2015) and her Master’s degree (2016). Her PhD studies, funded by a FPU fellowship and supervised by Dr Porras and Dr Gutiérrez-Uzquiza, were focused on studying the role of C3G protein in glioblastoma, the most aggressive brain tumour (1, 2). Since 2021, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Breast Cancer Group (or Caffarel Lab) from Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute (HRI). She obtained a ‘Juan de la Cierva’ Fellowship in 2023 and a ‘Sara Borrel’ Fellowship in 2024. Here, she has developed a more translational research thanks to the continuous interaction with clinical researchers (3, 4) as well as she has enriched her knowledge about the contribution of the tumour microenvironment and immune system to cancer progression (5). Throughout her career, she has been notably active in establishing scientific collaboration networks, always with an accentuated interest in promoting gender perspective and equality in science, and scientific outreach.
